About Dylan

Dylan Sougstad lived with a rare and beautiful fire—an inner light marked by love, compassion, authenticity, joy, courage, and gentle strength that lifted everyone around him. He had a unique way of making people feel seen, valued, and encouraged.

He was a force of nature, celebrated by his family as “the fastest kid alive,” or simply “the blur.” He was a beast on the soccer field, played basketball for the sheer joy of the game, and ran like the wind for the track team. For Dylan, sports were a passion, but his time being with friends was just as important. He was also a secret artist, possessing a remarkable talent for sketching that few were lucky enough to see.

Dylan’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. Deeply involved in Young Life, he loved God and Jesus, and was never seen without the cross he wore proudly. He was a young man of immense character and integrity. He was the heartbeat of every team, a natural leader who focused on lifting others higher. He was a protector and a gentleman, fiercely loyal to his friends and family.

“When my mom passed away, Dylan was the first to text me and when he saw me the next time he gave me the longest hug and wouldn’t let me go until I told him I was gonna get through it because he wanted me to say the words out loud. That’s my favorite memory with him and that became the start of a brotherhood which I’ll never forget.” – Barrett Kallendorf
“Dylan, thanks for always being such a light everywhere you went. You never failed to bring joy and laughter with you, and I am so grateful for the time I got to spend with you.” – Emery Snyder
“Dylan had an incredible impact on the people around him and we're so fortunate that he and Cole crossed paths. We are devastated by the loss of such a wonderful person and heartbroken for the family and friends he leaves behind. This scholarship is a meaningful way to celebrate Dylan and others who live like him.” – The Canter Family
“Dylan was such a light in the world and meant so much to Ryan—and to everyone who knew him. Dylan's spirit will live on in all our hearts. This scholarship is a wonderful way to extend his legacy for future generations.” – The Bass Family
