When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!
The SpongeBob musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley.
Appropriate for all ages.

Audition Information
Registration
- To audition for Cast OR Crew, you must first register in UltraCamp. This is a required step and must be completed prior to auditions (see Important Dates). Please fill out every field, including all conflicts and potential conflicts.
- Secondly (Cast ONLY), choose your audition time for October 1 in SignUp Genius. (Choose only one.)
Session 1: 3:15-5:15pm
Session 2: 6:00-8:00pm
HIGH SCHOOL SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY: Are you a student in high school who would like to earn service hours in a fun way? *This works best for students who are not going out of town for Intersession. There is no fee. You must get fingerprinted at the Welcome Center if you haven’t done that in the past 5 years. Email us at chca68musical@gmail.com to let us know of your interest.
Audition Details
Auditions are required for all cast roles and cannot be made up on another day.
What to Expect on October 1: Students do NOT need to memorize anything for auditions, but it is good to practice the song excerpts and scripts below so they are familiar. We will warm up the group vocally. Students will be asked which song they would like to sing and asked to read for several different roles.
In addition to singing and acting, there will be a short dance audition. Please do not be intimidated by this – it is simple movement. Just please do not wear a skirt, crocs, sandals, a crop-top or low-cut top (you will be asked to change). Regular school clothes and gym shoes are fine. Jazz shoes are also great. You may want to bring a water bottle.
Sessions: There are two session options, but they will be exactly the same. We just want you to choose the time that best works with your schedule.
- SINGING: Practice the song excerpts below, both with and without the words. Choose your favorite one to sing as a solo at auditions. If you do not want to have a solo in the show, you may choose to sing with a small group instead.

- ACTING: Practice your acting by reading different roles in the scripts given below. Ask family or friends to read with you or read by yourself in the mirror.

Call Backs on October 2: Call backs are used for students that we need to hear or see more from. Perhaps we need to see a student sing something in a different range, or act in a different role. In some cases, roles are cast without a call back. No one will be cut from the production. Call backs will be announced via email after both sessions are finished. If you are called, you do not need to prepare anything new.

Rehearsal
Rehearsals will potentially be held Monday-Friday from 3:30 pm – 5:00/5:30 pm. When it gets closer to show time, rehearsals will go later. Depending on the role, students will not be called to rehearsal every day until closer to the end.
Armleder Transportation: We provide transportation for students who are coming from the Armleder Campus to the Founders’ Campus. We will coordinate with Robin Graff, who will be the van driver. Please let us know in advance if your student will NOT be riding with her or if he or she is absent from school. Remember, you will need to provide pick-up at the end of rehearsal. Please pick up your student from the Founders’ Campus. When rehearsals move to the high school, they will be taken to the high school instead of FC. Those dates will be on the rehearsal calendar.
Be Prepared: Students should bring their own snack, water bottle, and script to rehearsals and meet in the room listed on the calendar.
Attendance: Cast members are expected to be at all required rehearsals for which their character is needed. Crew will be needed for the first rehearsal, headshots day, and in January. Crew will have one required Sunday afternoon rehearsal in January called “Dry Tech Day.”
Rehearsal Absences: If your student MUST miss a rehearsal (other dates specified during your original registration), notify the Director at chca68musical@gmail.com before the fact. Multiple absences may jeopardize your student’s role, even if they are prearranged and excused. Absences due to illness or family emergencies are always excused, but please notify us via email.
Late Pick-Up: Please try to pick up your student on time. Directors have other commitments and may need to leave right at the end of rehearsal.

Show Fees:
Fees & Requirements
- Mandatory Cast Fee: $150 (Includes Costumes, sweatshirt, Tech Week snacks and meals, and Production Party). Students are asked to supply basic costume pieces (like leotard or undershirt), personal makeup, and shoes. We do have a collection of used shoes we can loan.
- Mandatory Crew Fees: $75 (Includes sweatshirt, Tech Week snacks and meals, and Production Party). Students will be asked to wear all black clothing during Tech Week and shows.
- Payment of Fees: During online registration, you will be asked to schedule a future automatic payment through UltraCamp, deducted after the show is cast and the first rehearsal is held.
- Tickets: All Cast members are required to sell 10 tickets total. Tickets are ordered and tracked via CUR8.com (CHCA’s online box office). If less than 10 tickets are sold, you will need to pay for the remaining tickets at $10 each. The Cast Ticket Deadline is in “Important Dates.” (Crew is exempt.)
Parent Volunteering
One parent from each family must serve a minimum of 6 hours in some aspect of pre-production/show weekend. You will complete a Theatre Parent Volunteer form during registration in UltraCamp to choose your preferences, such as: Costumes, Props, Hospitality, and more. We will also send out a SignUp Genius in October to help with show weekend tasks like CandyGrams, Supervision, and Ushering. It takes a village to put on a great show, and we thank you in advance for your support!

Communication
Parent Interest Meeting: We will have a meeting before auditions to give you important information, fun facts about the show, and answer any questions you may have. See “Important Dates” for time and place.
Email: When you register your child in UltraCamp, it will ask you to provide your email. This is the primary way we communicate throughout the production process. A “Sunday Preview” email will be sent every weekend to keep you informed.
Remind App: For more urgent messages, we will use the Remind app. An invitation will be sent to you after the show is cast to join this group.
